Gussie & Gertrude Giraffe
The Maple Tree Symposium, 2017
A large maple tree's final gift to the Thibos family was the foundation for a carving of a female giraffe (Gertrude) and her baby (Gussie) at the Maple Tree Symposium in September & October 2017. The carvers were Larry Thibos and his son Cameron. They used chainsaws of various sizes and shapes for most of the work, with small details developed with hand chisels. Catering and moral support was provided by Elspeth Thibos.
